WHY SEND FILIPINOS?

FILIPINOS ARE MULTI-CULTURAL
Centuries of colonial rule exposed them to different cultures. They can adapt to a new one. No group of people, perhaps, could assimilate with other cultures better than the Filipinos do.

FILIPINOS ARE MULTI-LINGUAL
They speak English and can speak 1 or 2 other more. The Philippines is the world’s third largest English-speaking nation, after the U.S. and the United Kingdom. They can easily learn a new language.

FILIPINOS HAVE A UNIQUE FEATURE
They can easily blend –in other colors and cultures without being noticed (especially in Asia). Usually, they are the ones who wear the biggest smile. In a regional survey, the Filipinos were tagged as the happiest people in Asia.

FILIPINOS ARE RELIGIOUS PEOPLE
Filipinos are those who love to talk about God. They are pious Christians who, at the time atheism draws massive followers, still believe in miracles. Many Filipinos brought their faith abroad and preached the Gospel, even to the extent that some of them were beheaded in Saudi Arabia.

FILIPINOS ARE SERVILE
What’s interesting about the Filipinos is the way they show humility and still keep the sense of nationalism. They serve as nannies in Hong Kong, caregivers in Canada, gardeners in Europe, laborers in the Middle East and entertainers in Japan.

FILIPINOS ARE NON-THREATENING
They are peace loving people and have no history of aggression.

FILIPINOS ARE RESILIENT
They have been like a bamboo held firm thru calamities, disaster and difficulties. This remains despite the numerous calamities hitting the Philippines each year. The country experiences the most number of typhoons in the world, estimated between 20 and 30 every year. But no typhoon, not even the strongest one, could dump the enthusiasm of the Filipinos.

The Road to Damascus

I would like to thank Jesus for His mercy, and dying on the cross for me. My first Road to Damascus begins in a little town of Manila, called Quiapo. In my third year in high school, I became good friends with a young man name Joseph, who invited me to a Bible Study in the campus. It was there I first heard about Jesus Christ and how He would be coming back soon. Our Bible Study teacher, Pastor Nomer Trinidad told me much about the Gospel, about end time events and the Tribulation, and about Hell. God planted it in my heart to believe what he said, and it scared me.

After a year, my friend, Joseph graduated from high school leaving me responsible to gather the other students in the campus for Bible Study. I began to think that it was very difficult for me to do such responsibility, so I also stopped attending Bible Study. That’s the time I became so exposed to temptations, I could do nothing against it. I was easily tempted and carried away by evil influences. I became an easy prey for the Devil. I found myself a member of a notorious gang in our town. I learned to smoke, at first cigarettes then later on marijuana.

I wanted to live life my way, but I ended up getting myself into a lot of trouble. Drugs had a hold into my life. I had problems with anger and had a whole bunch of sins attached to my life.

One night, I was high in drugs that I felt an evil presence stood just a few feet from where I was sitting. I couldn’t see it, but I could sense it. Satan was laughing at me and taunting me saying, “You’ll die! You’ll die!” Fear gripped me and I trembled in terror.

Although I hadn’t prayed in years, I tried to pray, “God forgive me. God help me! I’ll never smoke marijuana again! I’ll stop taking drugs!” But as soon as I’d said it, God showed me I didn’t mean it. Oh, how ashamed I felt! However, God had heard my prayer. The evil spirit left and I felt a peace of mind and heart that I’ve never felt before.

I cannot forget that night. My cry for help was sincere, even though my promises were not. But I know what God had begun in my life, he will also complete it. He made me aware of where I was, where I once had been, and where I was headed if I continued in a life of worldliness and drug addiction.

Memories of true joy haunted me. Slowly I realized how I’d turned my back on God and stubbornly refused to obey Him, and where my rebellion had brought me. Those things which promised fun, excitement, thrills, and satisfaction eventually became my master. The fun was gone, and the habits which I’d acquired had me bound.

Seeking peace and release from these habits, my parents decided to bring me to rehabilitation center. But my addictions never got any better. I only found myself deeper in bondage. I learned to steal to sustain my evil habits. I began to realize the enormous price I was paying for “a little fun.”

Road to Damascus

One day I was arrested for concealing deadly weapons. A month and a half later I was arrested again for robbery highway with added charges of attempting to elude and resist the police. I spent eight months in the city jail and fourteen months in Sampaguita Penal Colony. In the prison, I’ve seen how God has protected me and saved me from troubles but I just ignored those. I knew that He led me to that point where I did not have anyone to lean on, no friends, no family, no one but Him.

The day after I got out, I went back to the bars and got drunk, but I also poured my heart out to God, asking “Why did this happen? My life was a mess. One morning the Lord made me remember the church where I was baptized and decided to go there on Sunday.

On May 5, 1985 was my second Road to Damascus. I went to the Philippine Evangelistic Center in Makati City. God was talking to me on Matthew 12:43-45 preached by Pastor Donie Ompad. The word of God was very clear to me that morning. I knew it was me who he spoke about. Tears were falling down from eyes; I don’t remember what went on in that meeting. All I know is that when the preaching is over, the altar call is given. I rushed to the altar and there I poured my heart to God, everything, my anger, my heartaches. I was so ashamed of the life I had lived. It seemed that I went over sin separately, asking forgiveness. True repentance flowed from my heart. And oh, what happened next! Baptism of the Holy Ghost! The love of God swept through my soul, and I felt the loving arms of Jesus wrap around me and just rock me like a baby. he said “I love you, Oscar, for who you are and what you can be in Me”

What a change God made in my life! He not only cleaned up the outward evidences of sin, but also made a change inside. All the self pity, loneliness, worthlessness and hopelessness were gone. In their place, God gave me joy, happiness, and confidence in Christ. I truly was turned about-face.

I can’t wait to write my third Road to Damascus, and my fourth . . .

If so, share it with us. I am planning to compile stories of miraculous and unusual testimonies of a Road to Damascus experiences. If you have an outstanding testimony of this nature or know a member in your church who does, please share it with us. I desire testimonies from various geographical, ethnic, religious, and generational backgrounds. I am particularly seeking stories with one or more of the following elements:

Deliverance from drug addiction, alcoholism, demon possession, criminal lifestyle, homosexuality, etc.

Outstanding miracles associated with conversion such as healing, dream, vision, angelic appearance, or voice from God.

Victory over difficult obstacles, such as extreme opposition from family or friends, racial prejudice, poverty, handicap, or childhood abuse.

Thanks for the comments. I too, have always loved the song. The first time I heard that song was, when it was sung by Pastor Alvin xxxxxx and Pastor Jojo XXXXX in our church in Novaliches.

While making the video clip, I could not help but weep and cry, I viewed all the films about Him for the clip (The Nativity, The Color of the Cross, Jesus of Nazareth, The Greatest Story Ever Told and the Passion of the Christ) so I was overwhelmed that I haven’t slept that night, crying and remembering what He has done for me. He really loves us, all the times.

The Little King

He came from heaven down to Earth,
And in a stable His mom gave birth,
He came as just a precious child,
As just a babe, meek and mild.

The shepherds heard some loud voices ringing,
They looked in the sky and saw the angels singing,
They ran to the stable to see His face,
And at that moment they were filled with grace.

Some wisemen came from way afar,
By following a bright and shing star,
They brought frankincense, myrrh, and gold,
To the little king, just one day old.

He brought us all great peace and joy,
When He was just a baby boy,
